A public hearing on the pricing of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will be held on October 29. Following the decision, LPG traders have withdrawn their announced plan to shut shops across the country on October 15 and 16.

The traders announced the withdrawal of the strike on Wednesday, October 14.

On October 12, they had announced that all LPG shops nationwide would remain closed for two days, October 15 and 16.

Earlier on Wednesday, a meeting was held with LPG operators at the conference room of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources at the Secretariat. After the meeting, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir issued a joint statement warning that strict legal action would be taken if the traders did not withdraw the strike.

With the public hearing scheduled, the traders’ decision to call off the strike has, for now, removed the prospect of LPG shops closing nationwide on October 15 and 16.
