French authorities have issued an international appeal for information in connection with a former schoolteacher accused of sexually abusing at least 89 children over a period spanning several years.

Prosecutors say the suspect, who previously worked in multiple educational institutions, allegedly targeted minors both in France and potentially abroad.

The case emerged following an extensive investigation by French law enforcement agencies, which uncovered testimony from dozens of alleged victims.

Authorities believe the actual number of victims could be higher and have urged individuals in other countries who may have had contact with the accused to come forward.

According to investigators, the alleged abuse occurred in various settings, including schools and extracurricular activities where the suspect held positions of trust.

Officials stated that the international appeal aims to identify additional victims, gather evidence, and determine whether crimes may have been committed outside France.

The suspect has been placed under judicial supervision while the investigation continues. French prosecutors described the case as one of the most serious child abuse investigations in recent years and emphasised the importance of cross-border cooperation in addressing crimes involving minors.

Child protection agencies have also been involved in supporting alleged victims and their families. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring justice and strengthening safeguarding mechanisms in educational institutions.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further legal proceedings are expected as evidence continues to be examined.
