Mexico Coast Authorities Intercept Cocaine-Loaded Submarine

The Mexican navy has intercepted a submarine transporting a large shipment of cocaine off the country’s Pacific coast, delivering a major blow to drug trafficking operations in the region.

In a maritime operation on February 19, 2026, security forces stopped a low-profile submarine suspected of smuggling drugs. The vessel was found carrying approximately four tons (about 4,000 kilograms) of cocaine when it was seized. Three individuals were arrested in connection with the incident.

Officials reported that this arrest is part of broader anti-drug patrols in Mexican waters. Over the past week, nearly ten tons of illegal narcotics have been confiscated by naval and coast guard forces in multiple operations, significantly disrupting the supply chains used by organized crime groups.

Authorities have emphasized that aggressive enforcement against drug trafficking continues to be a priority, aiming to reduce the flow of narcotics and protect communities from the social harms associated with drug distribution.
