Kannada film Premada Orali, reportedly made on a budget of less than ₹3 crore, has delivered a remarkable box-office performance. The film crossed ₹100 crore in the Indian market within 28 days of its release. Despite a slow start, positive audience feedback and word-of-mouth publicity have helped it emerge as a major box-office success.

According to Pinkvilla’s box-office report, the film’s total domestic collection reached ₹101.5 crore by the end of its fourth week. It earned ₹28.5 crore during the fourth week alone. The film had collected less than ₹10 lakh on its opening day, making its rise into the ₹100-crore club within 28 days a notable achievement for Kannada cinema.

Karnataka has contributed the bulk of the film’s earnings. After 28 days, its collection in the state stood at approximately ₹99.75 crore. Pinkvilla’s projections suggest that the film could cross the ₹100-crore mark in Karnataka on the Friday of its fifth week. If its current momentum continues, the domestic total could reach ₹125 crore.

Such a performance could place Premada Orali fourth among the highest-grossing Kannada films in Karnataka. The films ahead of it on the list include Kantara Chapter 1, Kantara and KGF Chapter 2. Meanwhile, according to News Karnataka, the film’s worldwide gross had exceeded ₹114 crore by its 29th day.

Pinkvilla reported that the film earned ₹6.25 crore in its first week, followed by ₹27.75 crore in the second week and ₹39 crore in the third. Over the eight-day period from day 22 to day 29, it collected ₹30.5 crore, averaging around ₹3.81 crore per day. However, its daily earnings declined to an estimated ₹2 crore on day 29.

The film’s journey to success has also been marked by financial struggles. Director Manoj Kumar reportedly faced severe financial difficulties during production and even considered pawning valuable personal belongings to complete the project. With limited resources for large-scale promotion, the cast and crew adopted an unconventional approach. They took to the streets to distribute promotional leaflets and invitations, and even spoke to passengers on public buses to encourage them to watch the film.

As word of mouth spread, the number of screenings and box-office earnings began to rise. The film was initially screened in only 60 theatres during its first week.

Set in a rural backdrop, Premada Orali explores love, family relationships, marital tensions and women’s emotions. The story revolves around farmer Naganna and his son Shantu. After losing his wife, Naganna raises his son alone and hopes to secure his future by arranging his marriage to an educated woman. However, their relative Vasantha has feelings for Shantu. After Shantu marries Rukmini at his father’s insistence, complications emerge in his married life.

Directed by Manoj Kumar, the film features Rangayana Raghu as Naganna, Sri Ram as Shantu, Tapaswini Poonacha as Rukmini and Ramika Shibu as Vasantha.

The film’s performance has also drawn attention from prominent figures in Kannada cinema. KGF star Yash and Kantara actor-director Rishab Shetty have praised audiences for supporting story-driven films. Its success has attracted particular attention amid discussions surrounding the commercial performance of Toxic.

Premada Orali is also in contention to become Karnataka’s highest-grossing film of 2026. Reports suggest that it could surpass the earnings of Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh.

However, News Karnataka has clarified that the reported worldwide figure of ₹114 crore represents gross box-office collections, not the producers’ net earnings or profit. Theatre shares and distribution expenses reduce the amount ultimately received by the filmmakers.

Even so, the film’s performance—despite its limited initial release, modest budget and promotional constraints—has sparked fresh discussion about the commercial potential of Kannada cinema.
