Human Rights Alive Congratulates Bangladesh Foreign Minister on Election as UN General Assembly President

Human Rights Alive has congratulated Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, describing the achievement as a significant milestone in Bangladesh’s diplomatic journey.
In a statement issued on June 2, the organization said Khalilur Rahman secured victory in a highly competitive election held at the UN Headquarters in New York, receiving 99 votes out of 190 cast.
According to Human Rights Alive, the election reflects Bangladesh’s growing international credibility, diplomatic maturity, and expanding influence on the global stage. The organization noted that the appointment of a Bangladeshi diplomat to lead the UN General Assembly is a proud moment for the nation.
The statement expressed hope that under Rahman’s leadership, the United Nations will strengthen its efforts to promote global peace, protect human rights, uphold the rule of law, address climate change challenges, and advance sustainable development goals worldwide.
Human Rights Alive also emphasized the importance of ensuring the rights and dignity of marginalized communities, stating that the new President has the opportunity to play a meaningful role in advancing inclusive and people-centered global policies.
The organization further said it believes Khalilur Rahman’s tenure will not only enhance Bangladesh’s international image but also contribute to building a more just, equitable, and inclusive world.
