When Stories Must Be Short: Why Micro-Drama Could Be Bangladesh’s Next Big Thing
Published : 21:14, 28 December 2025
Across Asia, there's a big change happening in how people enjoy entertainment. Stories are getting shorter, more intense, and quicker to watch.
This is a micro-drama.
I first noticed it while scrolling through a video app. I clicked on a short clip, and in under a minute, I saw a story unfold with conflict and a cool twist. Before I knew it, I had watched three episodes while waiting for my train. Each was super short, but I was already hooked on the characters.
That’s when I realized this isn't just another type of content. It’s a fresh way to tell stories.
Micro-Drama Is Taking Off
What started as something small in China has blown up into a huge industry. By mid-2025, over 626 million people in China were watching these micro-dramas—that’s about 56% of everyone who uses the internet there.
In 2024, the micro-drama market in China was worth more than 50 billion yuan (around $6.9 billion USD), growing about 35% each year! Some sites have over 120 million users every month
This isn’t just from ads. People are genuinely into it. Micro-dramas are great for today's busy lives – perfect for short breaks, commutes, or any moment when you don’t have much time but still want to watch something cool.
This trend isn't just in China anymore. In India, micro-drama is becoming super popular on phone video apps. Short stories just make sense with how people use their phones.
In big markets like these, micro-drama isn’t just a small thing. It’s part of everyday entertainment.

Bangladesh Is Ready Too
Bangladesh is changing fast with tech.
About 44.5% of people in Bangladesh use the internet, which is nearly 78 million users. Almost three-quarters of homes have smartphones. Most homes now have the internet.
Bangladesh has around 185 million phone connections—more than the actual number of people living there. So basically, Bangladesh is all about mobile.
The online video market is also getting bigger. By 2025, it’s expected to make around $269 million USD, and by 2030, it could be over $435 million USD.
People want stories that are quick, fun, and can keep them hooked. They need shows that are easy to make, can be scaled up, and are binge-worthy.
Micro-drama fits right in.
Micro-Drama on DeeptoPlay
Micro-drama is also about the tech behind it.
Short episodes mean things load fast. This is important because many people use phone data and budget smartphones. Slow loading times can ruin it for viewers.
That’s why we teamed up with Nusratech. Their cloud and streaming support give us what we need to deliver many short episodes without issues. When people are watching these shows back-to-back, everything needs to be reliable.
Bangla Micro-Drama in 2026
With our research and plan in place, DeeptoPlay is getting ready to start a Micro-Drama section in 2026.
Here’s the plan:
* Episodes will be between 45 and 120 seconds.
* Stories will be split into 10 to 20 episodes.
* Shows will be on the DeeptoPlay app and online.
* We’ll make money through ads and subscriptions.
We want all writers and production houses to send ideas.
We don’t want to copy anyone else. We want to make something truly Bangladeshi — stories about our language, cities, and the conflicts.
Short stories. Real feelings. Local taste.
A New Time for Stories in Bangladesh
People are already watching micro-dramas. Money is going into making them. Bangladesh has people with their own smartphones, ready for digital entertainment that fits their lives.
DeeptoPlay is ready.
When we start in 2026, it’ll be the start of new stories for Bangladesh.
Sometimes, the best stories are quick.
