The government has announced the introduction of a special “Pink Bus Service” aimed at ensuring safe and comfortable transportation for women workers. The service will be fully operated and managed by female drivers and staff, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said during the national budget presentation for FY 2026–27.

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday (June 11), the finance minister said the initiative is part of broader efforts to improve safety and mobility for women in the workforce.

He also reaffirmed a “zero tolerance” policy against any form of violence or harassment toward female workers in workplaces, emphasizing the need for a safe working environment.

According to the minister, the government plans to establish employment exchange centers at district and sub-district levels to expand job opportunities for young men and women.

He further noted that the “Bangladesh Labour (Amendment) Act, 2026” has already been enacted to strengthen legal protection for workers. In addition, a National Action Plan (2026–2030) is being drafted to eliminate child labour in the country.

Experts believe that if implemented effectively, these initiatives could significantly improve women’s safety, mobility, and employment opportunities.
