Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The meeting took place on Tuesday (August 11), with discussions reportedly focusing on Bangladesh-India bilateral relations, the recent diplomatic situation and various ongoing issues between the two countries.
Diplomatic sources said Trivedi's visit to New Delhi after taking charge in Dhaka is being viewed as part of efforts to rebuild and strengthen bilateral ties. The meeting came amid renewed attempts to increase high-level communication following a period of tensions and differences between Dhaka and New Delhi over several issues.
According to diplomatic sources, the meeting covered the current state of bilateral relations, ways to strengthen mutual trust, and outstanding issues between the two countries. However, no official details have yet been released regarding the specific matters discussed.
A day earlier, on Monday (August 10), Trivedi held his first meeting with Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman since assuming office as India's high commissioner in Dhaka.
During that meeting, the two sides reportedly emphasised taking Bangladesh-India relations forward, strengthening mutual trust and resolving outstanding issues through dialogue.
Trivedi left Dhaka for New Delhi on Monday afternoon, shortly after meeting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. His meeting with Prime Minister Modi took place the following day.
The high-level contacts in Dhaka and New Delhi on consecutive days are being viewed as significant for bilateral relations. Diplomatic engagement at the highest level could help rebuild confidence between the two neighbours following recent tensions.
Bangladesh and India have a wide range of issues on their bilateral agenda, including trade, border management, water sharing, energy, connectivity, visas and regional cooperation. Continued high-level dialogue is considered important for resolving these issues on the basis of mutual interests, equality and respect.
