Abahani, Bashundhara Kings and Fakirerpool Clear FIFA Sanctions

Abahani Limited, Bashundhara Kings and Youngmen’s Fakirerpool Club have been cleared of their temporary FIFA sanctions after settling outstanding payments. The development has brought relief to the country’s football community ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The participation of Abahani and Bashundhara Kings is particularly significant for the upcoming Premier League. Since the professional league was launched in 2007, both clubs have won the league title six times, making them two of the most successful teams in the competition.

With the licensing hurdle cleared, clubs are now focusing on squad building and preparations for the new season.

Mohammedan Sporting Club moved early to strengthen its squad and has confirmed a foreign coach. Abahani, meanwhile, made a major signing by bringing in Nigerian World Cup forward Michael Babatunde.

With 13 teams expected to take part in the upcoming league, discussions are already underway about the relative strength of the participating clubs. The possibility of around seven teams competing seriously for the title could make the new season highly competitive.

Since making its debut in the 2018-19 season, Bashundhara Kings has established itself as one of the dominant forces in Bangladeshi football. The club has won five consecutive league titles and introduced a more professional and structured approach to club management.

Including its women’s team, the club has also built an impressive collection of trophies. Its emphasis on professionalism, organisational development and long-term planning has helped it establish a strong following among football fans.

After navigating various challenges in recent times, the club has begun preparations for the new season. Under the leadership of President Md Imrul Hasan, with continued support from Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, the club is working on its plans for the upcoming campaign.

Bashundhara Sports City has also emerged as a major initiative for sports infrastructure development. The modern facilities are expected to contribute to the long-term development of football and other sports in the country.

The Kings are now targeting success across all available competitions. Although several national team players have left the squad, the return of Robson Robinho, along with a 35-member squad featuring experienced domestic and foreign players, has strengthened the team’s confidence.

The club has already begun regular training under an experienced local coaching panel. Bashundhara Kings will now look to translate its preparations into strong performances on the field and challenge for major honours in the new season.
