On Monday, March 30, a drone-based agricultural demonstration was held on an open field at Jashore University of Science and Technology.

As part of the programme, drones were used to spray urea fertiliser over cropland. The initiative is expected to mark the beginning of a new era in agricultural productivity by reducing costs and saving time for farmers.

The day-long event was attended by Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Md. Mosharraf Hossain, as the chief guest. Special guests included Dr. Mohammad Ershadul Haque, Chief Scientific Officer of the FMPE Division in Gazipur, and Ms. Razia Sultana, Upazila Agriculture Officer of Jashore Sadar.

The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammad Javed Hossain Khan, Chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Jashore University of Science and Technology.

Also present from WeGro was its Chief Executive Officer, Md. Mahmudur Rahman and Head of Business Expansion and Strategy, Shakil Ahmed Shuvo.

WeGro expressed sincere gratitude to the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) for its participation in the project, noting that the initiative is steadily progressing towards success with their support.

Both parties expressed optimism that the application of drone technology will usher in a transformative phase in Bangladesh’s agricultural sector, enabling farmers to adopt modern practices and enhance efficiency and profitability. WeGro further stated that the initiative is part of its broader plan to ensure access to advanced technologies for farmers, making agricultural activities easier and more commercially viable.
