A counterfeit currency production factory has been uncovered in Dhaka's Uttara area, just ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, with two individuals arrested in connection with the operation.

According to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the counterfeit notes were being printed in a flat located in Uttara Sector 5, where the two suspects, who had recently completed their higher secondary education at Milestone School and College, had set up the operation. The two individuals had come to Dhaka from Feni for their studies and were allegedly involved in the printing of fake currency to meet the demand during the upcoming Eid celebrations.

RAB officials stated that the suspects were preparing counterfeit money in preparation for Eid, aiming to profit from the increased demand for currency during the festive season. Authorities confiscated 26 lakh (2.6 million) fake notes from the suspects, who were arrested on-site during the raid.

The operation has raised serious concerns about the spread of counterfeit currency in the capital, particularly ahead of major public holidays, when financial transactions are high. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are questioning the arrested individuals to identify others involved in the illicit operation.
