The Election Commission (EC) has announced that there will be no referendum in the upcoming by-elections for Bogura-6 and Sherpur-3 constituencies.

This announcement came after a meeting with the law enforcement agencies, where EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed briefed the media on the matter.

The by-elections for Bogura-6 and Sherpur-3 will be held on April 9. Akhtar Ahmed explained that the referendum will not take place in Sherpur-3 due to the lack of any impact on the result, while the referendum in Bogura-6 has already been conducted previously.

Regarding security arrangements, the EC Secretary mentioned that body-worn cameras will be used by the police, though their deployment will depend on the specific needs of the returning officers. He also confirmed that postal voting will be available in both constituencies and that the results will be announced promptly.

The Secretary further expressed hope that political parties and candidates would behave responsibly during the electoral process, ensuring peaceful and fair elections.

It is important to note that the February 12 national elections had initially included Sherpur-3, but voting was cancelled due to the death of a valid candidate. In the same election, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman vacated his Bogura-6 seat, prompting the by-election.
