Former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque has been granted bail by the High Court in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

On March 11, a bench led by Justice Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain issued the order, making Khairul Haque’s release on bail official. His lawyer, Monayem Nabi Shaheen, confirmed that there is now no legal obstacle preventing his release.

The defense team, which included senior lawyers Monsurul Haque Chowdhury, Mustafizur Rahman Khan, Motahar Hossain Saju, and Monayem Nabi Shaheen, had argued in favor of bail. The case against Khairul Haque was filed after his arrest on July 24, 2025, from his residence in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi.

Following his arrest, Khairul Haque was also implicated in the Abdul Kayum Ahad murder case in Jatrabari during the July Movement, alongside four other cases against him.

Earlier, the High Court had granted bail to Khairul Haque in four cases involving youth murder during the July Movement and fraudulent actions related to the caretaker government’s ruling.

Khairul Haque was appointed the 19th Chief Justice of Bangladesh on September 27, 2010, and retired on May 17, 2011. Later, he served as the Chairman of the Law Commission three times.
