Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Invites Turkish President Erdoğan to Visit Bangladesh

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has extended an invitation to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time, reaffirming Dhaka’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Ankara.
The invitation was conveyed on Friday during a courtesy meeting between the Prime Minister and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, according to an official statement.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman thanked Hakan Fidan for visiting Bangladesh and emphasized the importance of further deepening the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
Hakan Fidan conveyed warm greetings from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and described his visit as the first step toward elevating Bangladesh-Türkiye relations to a strategic partnership.
Both sides agreed in principle to hold annual Foreign Office Consultations at the ministerial level. They also decided to establish an annual “2+2 Dialogue” involving the foreign and defense ministers of both countries to enhance policy coordination and strategic cooperation.
In addition, the two countries agreed to create a consultative mechanism led by their foreign ministers, involving relevant ministries, to further strengthen political, economic, and strategic engagement.
The discussions covered a broad range of issues, including the Rohingya crisis, climate change, trade and investment, joint production initiatives, defense cooperation, and regional and international matters of mutual interest.
Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, and the Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir were also present at the meeting.
The meeting highlighted the shared commitment of both countries to expanding cooperation and building a stronger strategic partnership in the years ahead.
