Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday morning as part of his first official visit to the district since assuming office.

According to Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, the Prime Minister departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 9:00 a.m. and landed at Cox’s Bazar Airport at 9:53 a.m. He was accompanied by his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman.

Upon arrival, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs and Land Mir Md Helal Uddin, State Minister for Jute and Textiles, Shariful Alam, and local administrative officials.

Following airport formalities, the Prime Minister proceeded directly to PM Khali Union to attend a canal re-excavation program at Patli Khal. He is also scheduled to address a public gathering there.

During his day-long visit, he will inspect Dulahazara Safari Park and inaugurate a nationwide campaign to plant 250 million trees through a tree-planting event in the Mashumghat reserved forest area.

The Prime Minister is also expected to visit the grave of martyr Md. Wasim Akram in Pekua and met members of his family. In addition, he will lay the foundation stones of the newly formed Pekua Municipality and Matamuhuri Upazila.

Later in the afternoon, he will attend a public rally organized by the district BNP at the Chakaria municipal bus terminal area. His itinerary also includes visits to the Marine Drive road and Cox’s Bazar sea beach.

In the evening, the Prime Minister will participate in a civic reception at Long Beach Hotel before returning to Dhaka by air the same night.

After returning to Bangladesh in December last year following a prolonged stay abroad, Tarique Rahman assumed office as Prime Minister after his party secured a parliamentary majority. This marks his first official visit to Cox’s Bazar as head of government.
