Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed authorities to relocate the Syedabad, Gulistan, and Mohakhali bus terminals as part of efforts to restore order on the capital’s roads and address the longstanding traffic congestion problem.
The directive was issued during the third round of a meeting on traffic congestion reduction and modernization of traffic management, held on Monday (June 15) at the Cabinet Division’s Public Administration Conference Room in the Bangladesh Secretariat. The information was later shared with reporters by two Dhaka metropolitan administrators.
Chaired by the Prime Minister, the meeting focused on traffic conditions in Dhaka and other parts of the country, improvements to traffic management, and reforms in the urban transport sector.
Officials noted that the Syedabad, Gulistan, and Mohakhali bus terminals, located near key entry points and commercial hubs of the capital, have long been identified as major contributors to traffic congestion. As a result, the government plans to gradually relocate these terminals from the city center to more suitable locations.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam, and senior officials from relevant ministries and agencies.
