Dilip Kumar Agarwala, managing director of Diamond World, has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. The DB’s Gulshan division arrested him in the capital’s Banani area on Monday evening.

Shafiqul Islam, additional commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the arrest to Prothom Alo. He said Agarwala had been taken to the DB office following his arrest and that the arrest was made in connection with a case under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

A CID source said an investigation into a money laundering case against Agarwala was ongoing.

Agarwala contested the 12th parliamentary election as an independent candidate from the Chuadanga-1 constituency, which includes Alamdanga and part of Chuadanga Sadar, but lost. He is a member of the central industry and commerce subcommittee of the Awami League, whose activities have been banned.

Following the fall of the Awami League government amid the mass uprising in 2024, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Agarwala on September 3 that year. He was subsequently shown arrested in several murder cases.

After securing bail in all those cases, he was released from prison on October 1, 2025. His latest arrest is linked to a money laundering case being investigated by the CID.

The allegations remain subject to the legal process and should not be treated as proven offences unless established by a court.
