Discussions are intensifying over the formation of a new committee for the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) unit of Chhatra Dal, as the existing committee has reportedly remained inactive for a long time.
Party insiders said a new committee is expected to be announced soon in an effort to revitalize the organization on campus. Priority is likely to be given to academically talented and politically active leaders who played visible roles in past movements.
Among the names being discussed is current Senior Joint Secretary Abdus Samad from Thakurgaon, who is currently pursuing his PhD. He is known as a follower of the Central Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin.
Several leaders from the university’s 17th batch are also being considered, including Russell Parvez, Jibrail Sharif, and Sheikh Ahsan Habib. Jibrail Sharif and Sheikh Ahsan Habib are particularly noted for their active participation in anti-government movements during the previous administration, although Ahsan Habib recently faced controversy over an NGO-related issue.
From the 18th batch, Mohaimenul from Magura is also being discussed as a potential candidate. Party activists say he actively participated in anti-fascist movements during the Awami League government period. His brother-in-law was reportedly martyred during the July movement.
Shoaib Islam of the 19th batch is another prominent name in discussions. Known as a meritorious student, Shoaib also comes from a BNP-oriented political family background. His vocal participation in anti-Sheikh Hasina movements has earned recognition among students. He is said to be a follower of central Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam.
Another 19th batch student, Samiul from Mymensingh, is also being discussed for a leadership role.
Meanwhile, Morsalin Anik from Bogura has emerged as one of the youngest potential candidates. Sources say he also comes from a family with BNP political ideology.
Leaders and activists hope the new committee will strengthen organizational activities and bring renewed dynamism to the university unit of Chhatra Dal.
