The University Grants Commission of Bangladesh is set to organize a national workshop titled “Transforming Higher Education in Bangladesh: Roadmap for Sustainable Excellence” with the aim of making the country’s higher education system more modern, sustainable, and time-oriented.

The daylong workshop will be inaugurated tomorrow, Tuesday, at 10:00 am at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of the University of Dhaka by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. This will be his first official programme at the University of Dhaka since assuming office as Prime Minister.

UGC Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed shared details of the workshop at a press conference held this afternoon at the commission’s conference room.

He said the workshop would play an important role in improving the quality of higher education and developing internationally competent human resources. He also noted that recommendations from participants would help formulate practical policy guidelines for the future development of higher education in Bangladesh.

Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon and the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Education, Mahdi Amin, will attend the inaugural session as special guests. The programme will be chaired by UGC Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed.

Following the inaugural session, five technical sessions will be held focusing on graduate employability, soft skills development, demand-driven education, industry-academia collaboration, global competitiveness, digital transformation, digital literacy, integration of artificial intelligence, faculty development, research excellence, internationalization, governance, quality assurance, and institutional reforms.

The closing session will be attended by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam, as the chief guest.

Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology Professor Dr. A B M Badruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor of North South University Professor Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, and Vice-Chancellor of State University of Bangladesh Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain Khan will attend the event as special guests.
