Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that recruitment at Thakurgaon University will be based strictly on merit, with no room for favoritism or nepotism.

He made the remarks on Friday while inaugurating the university’s temporary office in the Tatipara Kalibari area of Thakurgaon town.

The minister said the government aims to transform the university into a center of world-class education by ensuring quality teaching and transparent recruitment practices.

“Only the most qualified candidates will be appointed as teachers and staff members,” he said, adding that the institution must focus on producing skilled graduates capable of contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.

Mirza Fakhrul noted that establishing a university and medical college in Thakurgaon had long been a demand of local residents. Responding to that demand, the government moved quickly to launch the projects and has already appointed the university’s vice chancellor.

He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for supporting the initiative.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Israfil Shahin said the university would open new opportunities for higher education in a region that had long remained deprived of such facilities.

Among others present at the event were State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, MP Md. Zahidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rafiqul Haque and Superintendent of Police Belal Hossain.
