The government has no plan to remove core academic subjects such as Bangla, History, and Philosophy from honors-level programs, Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has said.
Speaking to reporters after an ECNEC meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday, the minister dismissed circulating claims regarding the exclusion of these subjects from higher education curricula, describing them as baseless rumors.
He stated that there has been no discussion at the policymaking level about removing Bangla, Philosophy, or History from honors programs. According to him, no such proposal is currently under consideration by the government.
Highlighting the government's education reform agenda, the minister said efforts are underway to make higher education more career-oriented and responsive to modern demands. New courses and subjects are being introduced in line with global market trends and industry requirements, while initiatives are also being taken to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry.
He emphasized that curriculum modernization and the introduction of new disciplines do not mean eliminating traditional or foundational subjects. Universities continue to review and update their curricula through their academic councils while also addressing faculty shortages through institutional measures.
The minister urged students, teachers, and guardians not to pay attention to misleading information and to rely on official sources for education-related updates.
