Malaysia’s Labour Market Reopens: At-Taqwa Receives Demand Approval
Published : 19:48, 9 October 2026
Malaysia’s labour market is gradually reopening to Bangladeshi workers after a prolonged suspension. Following the attestation of a demand letter for 28 workers through Goodness Services Limited (RL-2068), the Malaysian High Commission has now approved a demand letter for At-Taqwa Overseas Limited (RL-1703) to recruit 26 workers.
According to sources, the first demand letter was attested for Goodness Services Limited following a recruitment request from Malaysia’s supermarket chain NSK Trade City. In the second phase, approval was granted to At-Taqwa Overseas Limited in response to a demand from Malaysian contracting firm Syarikat Perniagaan Monza.
Mohammad Hossain, manager of At-Taqwa Overseas Limited (RL-1703), confirmed the development. The Malaysian High Commission has also confirmed the information.
Labour Market Suspended in May 2024
The entry of Bangladeshi workers into Malaysia was suspended on May 31, 2024. The Malaysian government halted the entry of new workers amid allegations of irregularities in recruitment, excessive migration costs and other complaints.
Initiative to Reopen Overseas Employment Opportunities
After taking office, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasised reopening overseas labour markets that had been closed or restricted during a special meeting on foreign employment. As part of the initiative, he visited Malaysia and discussed resuming recruitment from Bangladesh with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Following these discussions, the process of recruiting Bangladeshi workers has begun to reopen. Malaysia has reportedly decided to initially recruit 10,000 Bangladeshi workers through the renewed process.
Training Planned to Ensure Workers’ Skills
Before workers are sent to Malaysia, they will receive training tailored to employers’ requirements to ensure they possess the necessary skills. Malaysian employers will then visit Bangladesh to select workers according to their recruitment needs.
Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury shared these details on October 4 while responding to a question from journalists at a press conference held at the Secretariat.
