Overnight, Russian forces carried out a massive wave of drone and missile strikes across Ukraine, firing hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles and dozens of missiles targeting power plants, rail hubs, and other critical infrastructure in at least eight regions.

The attacks caused widespread blackouts, disrupted heat and water supply, damaged railway depots near Kyiv, and forced the temporary shutdown of a major nuclear facility’s off-site power link. Several civilians were wounded, including at least three in the capital region, while energy and transport operators scrambled to restore services across war-torn areas.

The barrage coincided with ongoing peace negotiations in Miami between U.S. and Ukrainian officials, who have been meeting to outline a potential security framework meant to end the nearly four-year war.

Despite the diplomatic push, the scale and timing of the strikes underlined the stark reality: Russia has shown no sign of slowing the offensive or committing to a ceasefire. Ukrainian leaders and many Western allies warned that until Moscow abandons its hostility, no diplomatic framework, however well-intentioned, can hold.

As Ukraine grapples with new damage and civilian hardship just days before winter conditions, the attacks raise urgent questions about the viability of peace talks under fire and whether meaningful progress toward peace depends primarily on Russia’s willingness to stop targeting critical civilian infrastructure.
