Tasnova Mahbub Salam, Managing Director of Terranova Developments Limited and Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Ekushey Television, has been elected as a Director of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB).
The election results were officially announced by the election commissioner at around 11:30 pm on Saturday.
Tasnova Mahbub Salam secured victory in the Dhaka region by receiving 274 votes in the director category. In the REHAB election, the Abashon Byaboshayi Oikya Parishad panel won 11 out of the 20 director posts allocated for the Dhaka region.
Speaking after the victory, Tasnova Mahbub Salam said the newly elected committee would focus on the development of the housing sector and the establishment of planned urban growth.
Ekushey Television Chairman and CEO Abdus Salam expressed hope that the new committee would work effectively to resolve the challenges currently facing the real estate sector.
Voting began at 10:30 am and continued uninterrupted until 4:30 pm in a peaceful and transparent manner.
A total of 674 voters were eligible to vote in the election. Among them, 512 out of 613 voters in Dhaka cast their ballots, while 58 out of 61 voters in Chattogram exercised their voting rights. Overall voter turnout stood at around 85 percent.
The election attracted significant interest within the housing sector, creating a festive atmosphere due to its competitive nature. A total of 77 candidates contested for 29 posts.
Votes were cast for 29 positions, including the president, six vice presidents, and 19 directors. Three panels mainly contested the election: Abashon Byaboshayi Oikya Parishad, Pragatisheel Abashon Byaboshayi Parishad, and the Jagaran Panel. While the Oikya Parishad and Pragatisheel panels fielded full panels, the Jagaran Panel participated partially. Several independent candidates also contested for the positions of president and director.
