Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the government has already taken concrete steps to implement its election pledges within just three months of assuming office.
Speaking at a large public reception organized by the local BNP unit at Ruhia High School Ground in Thakurgaon on Wednesday, Fakhrul said several key commitments made to voters are now being translated into action.
The event was organized following the government's recent approval to upgrade Ruhia into a full-fledged upazila through a decision of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reforms (NICAR).
According to Fakhrul, major development initiatives have already been launched, including plans to establish Thakurgaon University, a medical college, and an engineering college, as well as efforts to reactivate Thakurgaon Airport and develop an Export Processing Zone (EPZ).
“These projects demonstrate the government's commitment to fulfilling the promises made to the people during the election,” he said.
The minister also revealed that approximately Tk 720 million has been allocated over the past three months for the development of mosques, madrasas, and other public institutions across Thakurgaon district.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s recent diplomatic achievement, Fakhrul noted that the country’s election to the presidency of the United Nations General Assembly represents a significant international recognition and reflects Bangladesh’s growing global standing.
At the same time, he warned of ongoing attempts by certain groups to create instability in the country. He urged young people to remain vigilant and take a leading role in combating drugs, corruption, injustice, and anti-state activities.
Fakhrul paid tribute to local leaders and community members who contributed to the establishment of Ruhia as an upazila, describing the achievement as a milestone in the region’s administrative and developmental progress.
The event was chaired by Ruhia Upazila BNP President Abdul Jabbar and attended by district BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Paigam Ali, and other party leaders.
Various social, cultural, and professional organizations also honored Mirza Fakhrul with floral receptions in recognition of his contributions to the development of Thakurgaon.
Earlier in the day, he inaugurated the Ruhia Union Parishad office as the temporary office of the newly approved Ruhia Upazila administration.
