The 21st National Furniture Fair has opened in the capital, showcasing contemporary designs, product diversity, and innovations in Bangladesh’s domestic furniture industry. Organized by the Bangladesh Furniture Shilpa Malik Samity (BF SMS), the five-day fair is being held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), featuring 44 leading furniture companies from across the country. The participating companies are displaying a wide range of furniture and modern designs across 323 stalls.

The fair began yesterday following its inauguration and is being held at ICCB’s Pushpaguchchha, Rajdarshan, and Nabaratri halls. It will remain open to visitors daily from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. Entry is free, and customers can enjoy discounts of up to 15 percent on selected furniture products during the event.

Mohammad Hasan Arif, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest. Special guests included FBCCI Administrator Md. Fazlul Hoque and Dr. K. M. Akteruzzaman, President of the Bangladesh Furniture Exporters Association. The event was chaired by Selim H. Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Furniture Shilpa Malik Samity.

Speaking at the event, Mohammad Hasan Arif said the country’s furniture industry plays an important role in meeting domestic demand, contributing to the national economy, and creating employment. He noted that furniture exports recorded positive growth during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, from July to September, indicating signs of recovery in the sector.

FBCCI Administrator Md. Fazlul Hoque said the growing presence of local furniture brands in international markets, beyond traditional export sectors such as the ready-made garment industry, is a matter of pride for Bangladesh. According to him, the country’s furniture market is worth around Tk 30,000 crore and is currently dominated by domestic manufacturers.

Selim H. Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Furniture Shilpa Malik Samity, emphasized the need for greater investment in product quality, design, and technology to sustain the industry’s progress. He also called for easier access to financing for entrepreneurs and the development of a skilled workforce.

Alhaj Sheikh Abdul Awal, Convener of the fair committee and Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Furniture Shilpa Malik Samity, said the National Furniture Fair provides domestic manufacturers with an opportunity to showcase new designs, product diversity, and innovations to customers. He added that the participation of leading brands at a single venue allows buyers to compare product designs and features and select furniture according to their needs.

Participating companies include well-known brands such as Akhtar, HATIL, Brothers, Nadia, Ayat, Omega, JMG, Navana, Athenas, Partex, Regal, and Legasis, among others. The fair will continue until October 31.

The overall management of the fair is being handled by the Design and Technology Center (DTC).
