Police have detained acting headteacher Julia Afrin and office assistant Mostafizur Rahman over allegations that they helped a teacher accused of raping a fourth-grade student during school hours in Abhaynagar, Jessore. They were detained in the Nawapara Bazar area on Wednesday night, October 28. The primary accused teacher, Imran Hossain, has reportedly been on the run since the incident.

Sheikh Lutfor Rahman, investigation officer at Abhaynagar Police Station, said that on Monday, October 26, a fourth-grade student at Bahirghat Government Primary School went to the bathroom. According to the allegation, assistant teacher Imran Hossain entered the bathroom, covered the girl's mouth and raped her. He allegedly threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.

When the girl refused to go to school the following day after returning home, her mother asked why. The child then disclosed the alleged rape by her teacher. After receiving the information, police and the upazila executive officer visited the scene. The girl's father filed a case over the incident.

The investigation officer said preliminary findings indicated that the girl's guardians and relatives had informed acting headteacher Julia Afrin about the incident. However, instead of taking action, she allegedly helped the accused teacher flee with assistance from office assistant Mostafizur Rahman. Police detained the two over these allegations.

The two detainees were shown as arrested in the rape case and produced before a court on Thursday.

Police are working to arrest the absconding teacher, Imran Hossain, the investigation officer said. He expressed hope that the accused would be arrested as soon as possible.
