A technical problem with a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft delayed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s flight from Tokyo to Dhaka. The issue arose on Thursday evening, October 29, as the aircraft was preparing for takeoff at Narita International Airport, according to UNB.
At around 6:18 p.m. local time, the aircraft left the terminal and taxied toward the runway. However, it stopped on the runway before takeoff. About 15 minutes later, the pilot, Imam ul, announced that the aircraft could not take off because of a technical problem.
The pilot said two engineers were working to fix the fault and that the flight would resume once the problem was resolved. The aircraft was subsequently taken back to the tarmac.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman and other members of the accompanying delegation were on board.
The prime minister had been scheduled to depart Tokyo for Dhaka at 6 p.m. local time on Thursday after a four-day state visit to Japan. The flight was expected to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 10:35 p.m. Bangladesh time.
Tarique Rahman arrived in Japan on October 26 at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
