A court has sentenced four defendants to death in the murder case of a woman named Shabana, allegedly killed over a land dispute in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar. Two other defendants received prison sentences of varying terms, while five were acquitted in the same case.
The verdict was delivered on Thursday afternoon, October 29, by the Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court in Moulvibazar.
According to the case details, Shabana was killed in 2016 following a land-related dispute in the Loiarkul area of Bhunbir Union in Sreemangal. A case was filed against 14 people. Three of the accused subsequently died of natural causes. Of the remaining defendants, four were sentenced to death, two received prison terms of varying lengths and five were acquitted.
The verdict came after a decade of witness testimony and legal arguments. The prosecution expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the long-running case.
Moulvibazar District and Sessions Judge's Court Public Prosecutor Md. Abdul Matin Chowdhury said the killing followed an argument over land and water flowing through a drain beside a house. He said the court delivered its verdict after a lengthy judicial process and that the prosecution was satisfied with the ruling.
