A suspect identified as Milon Mallik, a hotel employee, has confessed to killing a schoolgirl, Fatema Akter Lily, by slitting her throat in her rented home in South Banasree in the capital, according to law enforcement authorities.
The confession came during his initial interrogation following his arrest.
Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officials say that 17-year-old Lily, a Class 10 student of Radiant School and College, was found dead at her residence in the South Banasree area on Saturday afternoon.
She was living with her family in a rented flat while her parents were away in their village on personal matters. According to the confession in the preliminary investigation, Milon had an inappropriate relationship with Lily and made repeated advances toward her.
He allegedly offered to run away with her, but when she refused and rejected his proposal, he turned violent. The suspect acknowledged to investigators that Lily’s refusal prompted him to commit the fatal attack.
Law enforcement reported that Milon was arrested in the Bagherhat district and brought in for questioning. During that interrogation, he admitted responsibility for the murder and described his interactions with the victim leading up to the attack.
The brutality of the killing has shocked residents of the area, and RAB has stated that further interrogation and investigation are underway to uncover the full circumstances of the crime. Authorities are also examining CCTV footage and other evidence to rule out possible accomplices and establish a complete timeline of events.
The victim’s family has filed a formal murder case at the Khilgaon Police Station, naming Milon as the prime suspect. Police continue to secure evidence and prepare for prosecution as the investigation progresses.
