New Full-Time Administrators Appointed in Five More City Corporations in Bangladesh

The Ministry of Local Government has appointed full-time administrators to five additional city corporations, including Barishal and Rangpur, according to an official notification issued on Saturday.

The newly appointed administrators and their respective city corporations are as follows:

Barishal City Corporation: Advocate Bilkis Akhter Jahan Shirin

Rajshahi City Corporation: Md. Mahfuzur Rahman

Mymensingh City Corporation: Md. Rukunuzzaman Rokon

Rangpur City Corporation: Mahfuz un Nabi Chowdhury

Comilla City Corporation: Md. Yusuf Molla

The notification states that these administrators will exercise the powers and responsibilities of the city mayor under Section 25K, Subsection (3) of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024. They will also receive allowances as per the applicable rules.

This recent appointment follows earlier government action, which saw administrators appointed in two Dhaka city corporations and six other city corporations across the country. That previous notification was issued by the Ministry of Local Government on February 22, 2026.

Officials emphasized that the newly appointed administrators are expected to manage city corporation affairs in accordance with the ordinance, ensuring administrative continuity and efficient local governance in the absence of elected mayors.
