Government and Authorities Launch Widespread Programs to Boost Public Awareness on Referendum and Voting

In the lead-up to the scheduled constitutional referendum and national parliamentary election on 12 February 2026, the government and election authorities have rolled out a comprehensive, nationwide awareness campaign aimed at educating citizens about the importance of both the referendum and voter participation.
Under government directives, district-level information offices and field officials have started implementing a series of public outreach activities, including briefings in local marketplaces, culturally tailored messaging, and community engagement sessions designed to clarify the purpose of the referendum and encourage broad voter participation.
These efforts focus on explaining key aspects of the constitutional referendum question and emphasizing the value of exercising voting rights for democracy and national development.
As part of this large-scale initiative, ‘Vote’r Gari’ (Vote Caravan) vehicles have been deployed across the country. A convoy of specially branded vehicles has begun touring all 64 districts and over 300 upazilas, carrying educational materials and interacting with voters to strengthen understanding of both the parliamentary election and the referendum process.
These caravans aim to reach communities directly, particularly in rural and underserved areas, to ensure accessible information on how and why to participate.
Parallel to these government-led efforts, nearly 450 representatives from local and international NGOs participated in a workshop to coordinate NGO involvement in community outreach. Participants discussed strategies for engaging the public on the legal framework of the referendum and advocating inclusive participation through grassroots initiatives such as community meetings and radio programs.
The Election Commission has also finalized and disseminated banners, leaflets, and informational materials explaining the referendum question and voting options, ensuring consistent messaging nationwide. Voter education materials outline the referendum query voters will see on ballots and encourage citizens to make informed choices.
These accelerated awareness efforts reflect authorities’ emphasis on making both the referendum and election widely understood and participatory, in hopes of fostering informed civic engagement and strengthening democratic processes.
