The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has finalised its nomination for the upcoming Bogura-6 by-election, selecting Rezaul Karim Badsha as the party’s candidate.

The seat became vacant after Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman gave up the Bogura-6 constituency. Rahman won two seats, Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6, in the 13th National Parliament Election held on February 12, 2026, and chose to retain Dhaka-17, leaving Bogura-6 open for a by-election.

Rezaul Karim Badsha, who currently serves as the president of the BNP Bogura district unit, was officially nominated by the party’s central leadership on Thursday evening at the BNP chairman’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka. The nomination letter, signed by BNP General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, was handed over to Badsha.

Local BNP leaders and supporters have welcomed the decision, expressing confidence that Badsha will lead a strong campaign under the party’s “Sheaf of Paddy” (Dhaner Shish) election symbol.

According to the Election Commission schedule, the by-election in Bogura-6 is expected to take place on April 9, 2026.
