The Government of Bangladesh has announced that the distribution of ‘Family Cards’ will begin on 10 March 2026, with the official launch set to take place in Bogura Sadar Upazila.

The programme will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, marking the start of a pilot phase for the initiative.

The Family Card programme is designed as a social safety net scheme aimed at providing financial support to eligible families, with each household expected to receive Tk 2,500 per month in assistance. Under the pilot, the scheme will first be rolled out in selected areas — including a designated ward in Bogura — where field-level data collection has already begun to identify potential beneficiaries.

Confirmed by the State Minister for Local Government and Cooperatives, the prime minister’s visit to Bogura on 10 March will also be her first official trip there since taking office. Officials have formed committees at district, upazila, union and ward levels to ensure the programme is implemented smoothly.

The pilot phase is expected to run for several months before the government expands the programme nationwide in phases. Women from ultra-poor, poor, and lower-income households will be prioritized, with one woman in each family registered as the primary cardholder. Eligible families in the selected pilot areas will be issued Family Cards, enabling them to receive monthly cash transfers.

The initiative reflects a broader government effort to enhance social protection mechanisms and extend direct financial support to vulnerable citizens across the country.
