518 UK Properties of Former Land Minister Seized

A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of 518 flats and apartments in the United Kingdom registered under the name of former Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, in a move linked to ongoing corruption and money-laundering investigations.
According to court records, the total market value of the seized properties is £27,18,52,872 (about 27.18 million pounds).
The order was issued on Thursday (26 February 2026) by the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez, acting on a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and based on evidence gathered by a nine-member task force established for the probe.
Evidence presented in court included contracts, payment orders, booking money receipts, bank checks, and other documents that reportedly show purchase and ownership details of the overseas properties by Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed and individuals and companies linked to him. These records were initially seized during a September 2025 raid in Chittagong and later analysed in Dhaka.
The ACC’s petition argued that the seized UK properties should be taken under state control to prevent their transfer or disposal while investigations continue into alleged money laundering and illicit wealth accumulation.
Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed served as Bangladesh’s Land Minister from 2019 to 2023 and was previously a state minister in the same ministry. Allegations of undeclared foreign assets and large-scale corruption have surrounded him, prompting multiple legal actions and investigations by Bangladesh authorities.
