The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has advised the public not to leave cash, gold, or important documents unsecured in their homes during the Eid holidays.

Acting Commissioner, Md. Sarwar urged citizens to either leave these valuables with trusted relatives or in police custody if no family members are available in Dhaka.

In a press briefing on Sunday, March 15, Sarwar emphasized that those without family in the city could approach the police for assistance, and the items could be stored in the local police station for safekeeping.

He also urged people to ensure that windows and doors are securely closed before leaving their homes and recommended checking electricity, gas, and water connections to avoid any hazards. Additionally, he encouraged residents to install CCTV cameras and keep older cameras operational. Adequate lighting around homes at night was also suggested to deter any criminal activities.

With an increase in travelers leaving Dhaka, the police have intensified their efforts to maintain security. DMP Commissioner, Md. Sarwar mentioned that mobile patrols are being conducted with over 300 motorcycles and cars deployed daily across the city. The authorities have also set up over 70 checkposts at various locations to monitor traffic and ensure safety.

To prevent harassment of travelers and overcharging, plainclothes police and detective officers will monitor bus terminals, launch terminals, and rail stations during the Eid rush.

In addition, to prevent racing or overspeeding on the empty streets, mobile courts will be set up on key roads such as the Eastern Expressway, Banani, and Gulshan.

Sarwar confirmed that the DMP has already taken the necessary measures to ensure a safe and smooth journey for the public during the Eid period, while ensuring security in the vacant city.
