Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon the people to build a just and equitable Bangladesh free from discrimination and social division.

Speaking to journalists after offering Eid-ul-Azha prayers at the central Eidgah in Thakurgaon on Thursday morning, he said the true spirit of Qurbani lies in sacrifice, humanity, and standing beside underprivileged people.

Thousands of worshippers gathered at the central Eid congregation held on the grounds of Thakurgaon Government Boys’ High School. After the prayers, Mirza Fakhrul exchanged Eid greetings with devotees before addressing the media.

He said the country must move towards establishing a humane and balanced society by ensuring dignity and equal opportunities for poor, deprived, and marginalized people.

Describing Qurbani as a lesson of self-purification and sacrifice, the BNP Secretary General said it is not merely about slaughtering animals, but about removing greed, hatred, and negativity from within individuals and society.

Quoting national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, he said the spirit of sacrifice should inspire people to promote justice, compassion, and harmony across the country.

The Eid congregation was led by Maulana Md. Khalilur Rahman, followed by special prayers seeking peace, prosperity, and welfare for the nation.

Among those present were Dr. Israfil Shaheen, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rafiqul Haque, Superintendent of Police Md. Belal Hossain, local BNP leaders, and government officials.
