Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the government will draw the attention of the Supreme Court and the Attorney General’s Office to explore whether the death reference hearing in the Ramisa murder case can be brought forward in the judicial schedule, following due legal procedures.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at his office at the Secretariat on Sunday afternoon.
The minister described the verdict in the Ramisa case as a landmark in the country’s judicial and investigative history, noting that DNA testing and post-mortem examinations were completed in a very short time before filing the charge sheet. He also said that judges and related officials even cancelled their Eid leave to complete the trial process, reflecting strong state responsibility.
He added that police have played a commendable role in investigating several recent high-profile cases swiftly and professionally. Officers involved in good performance will be rewarded, while negligence or misconduct will not be tolerated.
The Home Minister further said that police efforts at Daulatdia (Goalanda) ferry terminal helped save the lives of around 50 passengers. He also praised the rapid breakthrough in a previously “clueless” teenage murder case in Gazaria.
He confirmed that border issues, including push-ins and border killings, will be discussed in the upcoming four-day DG-level Border Conference between BGB and BSF in New Delhi.
He assured that BGB remains on high alert along the border, while operations against drugs and crime continue. The government is also working on updating laws to ensure stricter punishment for offenders.
