Law Minister Mohammad Asaduzzaman has said that the government will seek the highest possible punishment for the accused in the murder case of child Ramisa.
Speaking as the chief guest at a football and financial assistance cheque distribution ceremony held at the Shailkupa Upazila Parishad Auditorium in Jhenaidah on Sunday, the minister expressed confidence that justice would be served based on the evidence collected in the case.
“We expect the accused to receive the maximum punishment based on the evidence and information available to us. The state will seek the highest penalty from the court,” he said.
The event was organized by the Jhenaidah District Council.
Addressing the issue of constitutional reform, the minister said that five members had been requested from the opposition party to join the Constitution Amendment Committee.
“They have informed us that they will communicate their decision later. We are now waiting for their response,” he added.
Emphasizing the government's firm stance against narcotics, Asaduzzaman said protecting society and the state from the devastating effects of drug abuse is a collective responsibility.
“There will be no compromise in the fight against drugs. Everyone in society must remain united against this menace,” he said.
The minister also highlighted several government welfare initiatives, stating that the government plans to provide family cards to 40 million families across the country as part of its social protection efforts.
He added that farmer cards, already introduced in several regions, would gradually be expanded nationwide. The government is also considering a plan to provide official allowances to mosque imams and Hindu temple priests.
The meeting was chaired by Jhenaidah District Council Administrator M.A. Majid.
Among others, District Commissioner Mohammad Noman Hossain and Shailkupa Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman addressed the gathering.
Senior BNP leader Abdul Majid Biswas, Shailkupa Upazila BNP General Secretary Humayun Babar Firoz, Officer-in-Charge of Shailkupa Police Station Humayun Kabir Molla, and other political and administrative officials were present at the event.
