Tanjila Khanam Appointed New CEO of Gazipur City Corporation

Senior Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) cadre officer Ms. Tanjila Khanam has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC), according to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration.

The notification, issued by the Deputation-2 Branch of the ministry on June 1, stated that Ms. Khanam, currently serving as a Joint Secretary at the Secondary and Higher Education Division, has been placed under the Local Government Division for her appointment as CEO of Gazipur City Corporation.

The order, signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Nur-e-Alam, took immediate effect in the public interest. Sources said Ms. Khanam is scheduled to assume her new responsibilities on June 4.

With extensive experience in public administration and policy implementation, Ms. Khanam has held several key positions within the government. Her appointment is expected to bring strong administrative leadership and strategic direction to one of the country’s largest city corporations.

As the administrative head of Gazipur City Corporation, she will oversee a wide range of civic and development activities, including urban infrastructure development, waste management, revenue collection, public health services, environmental protection, and efforts to address waterlogging and other urban challenges.

Gazipur, a major industrial and economic hub on the outskirts of the capital, continues to experience rapid urban growth, creating increasing demands for efficient public services and sustainable city management. Stakeholders believe Ms. Khanam’s experience and leadership will play a vital role in enhancing service delivery and advancing the city’s development agenda.

Her appointment comes at a time when Gazipur City Corporation is focusing on strengthening urban governance, improving civic amenities, and implementing smart city initiatives to meet the needs of its growing population.
