Following the end of the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, working professionals and people from various walks of life have started returning to the capital, Dhaka.

Since Sunday morning, a noticeable flow of passengers has been observed at bus terminals, railway stations, and river ports across the city. However, unlike previous years, the return journey has been relatively smooth, with no reports of severe congestion or overcrowding. Commuters are returning to their workplaces in a more comfortable and hassle-free manner.

A visit to Dhaka’s Gabtoli, Sayedabad, and Mohakhali bus terminals showed a steady flow of passengers arriving from northern and northeastern districts. Bus services from Mymensingh, Sherpur, Jamalpur, and Kishoreganj were operating normally, and passengers reported a comfortable journey due to the absence of traffic jams and adequate availability of buses. No complaints of excessive fare charging were reported.

A similar situation was observed at waterways. At the Sadarghat launch terminal, passengers arriving from the southern districts reported that the launches were relatively empty and clean.

A passenger from Barishal, Rofiqul Islam, said that, unlike previous Eid seasons, when launches are overcrowded, this time the journey was calm and comfortable. Another passenger, Suman, said he returned early to avoid the expected rush as office duties resume soon.

The government had declared holidays from May 25 to May 31 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. Combined with weekly holidays, government employees enjoyed a seven-day break.

After the extended holidays, officials and employees are expected to rejoin their workplaces from Monday.
