A mild heatwave is currently affecting 40 districts across Bangladesh and is expected to continue for the next few days, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). Weather officials have also warned that the heatwave could expand to additional areas before conditions improve.

Meteorologist Md. Shahinul Islam said the mild heatwave is prevailing over Dhaka, Narayanganj, Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Mymensingh, Chandpur, and Lakshmipur districts, along with eight districts in Rajshahi Division, eight in Rangpur Division, six in Barishal Division, and ten districts in Khulna Division.

He noted that such weather conditions are typical during this season. The ongoing heatwave is likely to remain in place for another two to three days, while the possibility of rainfall remains limited in most affected regions. Temperatures are expected to ease once significant rainfall occurs.

According to the BMD’s five-day forecast, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds may occur at isolated places in Dhaka Division and at several locations in Chattogram, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions during the next 24 hours from Tuesday morning.

Moderately heavy rainfall is also possible in some areas of Chattogram, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions. Elsewhere in the country, weather conditions are expected to remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies. Day and night temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged.

Rainfall activity is expected to increase on Wednesday, particularly across many areas of Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions. Several places in Chattogram, Khulna, and Barishal divisions may also experience thunderstorms and moderate rainfall, while heavy to very heavy showers could occur in isolated locations.

For Thursday, the weather office has forecast rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds in many places across Rangpur and Sylhet divisions, as well as in parts of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions.
