Prime Minister Congratulates Foreign Minister on Election as UN General Assembly President

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has congratulated Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman on being elected President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, describing the achievement as a reflection of Bangladesh’s growing credibility and contribution on the global stage.
The Prime Minister conveyed his congratulations through a Facebook post on Tuesday night following the election results.
In his message, Tarique Rahman said, “Congratulations to our Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman on being elected President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. This achievement reflects Bangladesh’s growing contribution and credibility on the global stage.”
He expressed confidence that Dr. Khalilur Rahman would represent Bangladesh with pride and play a constructive role in promoting dialogue, communication and international cooperation to address shared global challenges.
The Prime Minister also wished him every success in carrying out his new responsibilities at the United Nations.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman secured victory in the election after receiving support from 99 of the 190 UN member states that participated in the vote. His closest rival, Cyprus’ Andreas S. Kakouris, received 91 votes.
The election marks a significant diplomatic milestone for Bangladesh and strengthens the country’s presence in multilateral international affairs.
