Police have arrested 70 individuals, including activists and leaders of Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League, following a procession allegedly organized by members of the banned Chhatra League in Chattogram city.

The information was confirmed on Tuesday evening by Aminur Rashid, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sadar) and acting spokesperson of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).

According to police, coordinated operations were conducted across all 16 police stations under CMP after reports emerged that members of the banned organization had participated in a surprise procession in the city on Monday. The crackdown resulted in the arrest of 70 suspects, while further operations remain underway.

Law enforcement officials said individuals involved in the procession are being identified through video footage circulated on social media, intelligence reports, and other investigative findings. Authorities have pledged to continue legal action against anyone linked to the activities of the banned organization.

The incident took place on Monday morning near the GEC intersection in Chattogram, where a group of activists reportedly organized a sudden procession. Several videos of the march later went viral on social media platforms.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the procession was organized by activists associated with the Omar Gani MES College unit of Chhatra League. The group reportedly marched from the area opposite Nasirabad Government High School toward the GEC intersection.

Videos showed participants chanting various political slogans, including “Joy Bangla” and “Sheikh Hasina Asbe.” Witnesses said the procession carried a banner identifying the group as the MES College Chhatra League and appeared to have started from the vicinity of the No. 2 Gate area.
