The story of Rizwan Sajan is one of determination, resilience, and entrepreneurial vision. Born into a modest family in Mumbai, Sajan has risen from humble beginnings to become one of the Middle East’s most successful Indian businessmen.
Today, he is the founder and chairman of Danube Group, a Dubai-based conglomerate with interests spanning building materials, home interiors, and real estate development.
Sajan’s early life was marked by financial hardship. As a schoolboy, he often watched classmates buy snacks from the school canteen while he lacked the money to do the same. That experience motivated him to earn his own income from a young age.
At just 14 years old, he borrowed 1,000 rupees from his father and launched a seasonal business selling school textbooks. The venture generated his first profit, encouraging him to explore other opportunities, including selling festival-related products and delivering milk.
A major turning point came when his father passed away while he was still a teenager. With family responsibilities mounting, Sajan moved to Kuwait in search of work. During the Gulf War in 1990, he identified an opportunity to help stranded expatriates send messages to their families, earning additional income while navigating challenging circumstances.
Later, he relocated to Dubai and invested his savings in a small business venture. Through careful planning, persistence, and market insight, he gradually built Danube Group into a leading regional brand.
Today, his estimated wealth stands at around ₹20,000 crore, according to various media reports. Despite his immense success, Sajan often emphasises that his motivation has never been money alone, but rather the passion for building and growing businesses.
Now living in one of Dubai’s most luxurious private residences, Sajan remains proud of his roots and frequently credits his success to hard work, adaptability, and self-belief. He maintains that even if he had to start from scratch again, the lessons he learned throughout his journey would help him rebuild his success.
