Matheus Cunha scored twice as Brazil defeated Haiti 3-0 to claim their first win of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and move closer to securing a place in the knockout stage.
After facing criticism for a 1-1 draw against Morocco in their opening match, the five-time world champions delivered a commanding performance in Philadelphia. The defeat also confirmed Haiti’s elimination from the tournament after two consecutive losses.
Brazil took the lead in the 23rd minute through Cunha. After initiating the move himself, he capitalized on a rebound following a saved effort from Vinicius Junior and found the back of the net.
Cunha doubled Brazil’s advantage later in the first half, finishing clinically from a well-placed pass by Vinicius. Before halftime, Vinicius added a third goal, collecting a lofted pass from Lucas Paquetá and calmly finishing past goalkeeper Johny Placide.
Haiti showed greater intent in the second half and came close to scoring through Ricardo Adé, but Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker produced an excellent save to preserve the clean sheet.
Brazil had additional chances to extend their lead. A goal by Raphinha was ruled out for offside, while substitute Endrick also saw a goal disallowed for the same reason.
The victory lifts Brazil to the top of Group C on goal difference ahead of Morocco. Brazil will face Scotland in their final group-stage match on June 24 in Miami.
With Neymar unavailable due to injury, coach Carlo Ancelotti’s tactical adjustments proved effective. Cunha’s brace and Brazil’s overall display provided a strong response to earlier criticism and restored confidence within the squad.
The match also marked Brazil’s first clean sheet in seven games, signaling a positive turnaround in their World Cup campaign.
