BEIJING, June 25, 2026 Chinese Premier Li Qiang formally welcomed Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday afternoon.

Prime Minister Rahman arrived at the historic venue in a motorcade from the state guesthouse Diaoyutai, where he was received by Premier Li. The two leaders exchanged greetings and were introduced to members of their respective delegations.

As part of the official reception ceremony, Prime Minister Rahman was accorded a red-carpet welcome and a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Chinese armed forces. The national anthems of Bangladesh and China were played, and a ceremonial gun salute was fired in his honour.

Following the reception, the two prime ministers reviewed the military parade.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, high-level bilateral talks led by the two premiers are scheduled to take place at the Great Hall of the People. Discussions are expected to focus on Bangladesh-China relations, trade, investment, infrastructure development, and other issues of mutual interest.

Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Humayun Kabir said the meeting is expected to further strengthen strategic cooperation and economic partnership between the two countries.

Before arriving in Beijing, Prime Minister Rahman paid an official visit to Malaysia beginning on June 21. Following the conclusion of that visit, he travelled to Dalian, China, where he attended the World Economic Forum conference. After completing his engagements there, he travelled to Beijing on Wednesday aboard a high-speed train.

This marks Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s first official visit to China since assuming office. He previously visited China in 2001 as a member of the delegation accompanying then-Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and attended a state reception at the Great Hall of the People during that visit.
