India has announced the resumption of tourist visa services for Bangladeshi citizens after nearly two years. Applications for tourist visas will be accepted from June 28, according to India's newly appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi.

The announcement was made on Thursday (June 25) following his visit to the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Dhaka.

Speaking to journalists, the Indian High Commissioner said tourist visas will initially be issued through five visa application centers located in Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Sylhet and Rajshahi. The remaining centers will be reopened gradually.

India had temporarily suspended operations at all visa application centers in Bangladesh on August 4, 2024, amid political instability and security concerns following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government. Later, citing further deterioration in diplomatic and law-and-order conditions, Indian authorities completely halted tourist visa services from December 21, 2024.

The reopening of tourist visa services is expected to provide renewed opportunities for Bangladeshi travelers seeking to visit India for tourism, medical treatment and personal purposes.
