Supporters and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami distributed sweets across parts of Satkhira on Wednesday after the party expelled Member of Parliament Gazi Nazrul Islam from its ranks.
The celebrations took place at several locations in the district, where party members welcomed the central leadership's decision and described it as an important step towards maintaining organisational discipline and party principles.
According to party sources, the decision to expel Gazi Nazrul Islam followed allegations that he had engaged in activities contrary to the party's organisational rules. The announcement was followed by visible celebrations among sections of local Jamaat activists and supporters in Satkhira.
Participants in the celebrations said political organisations must uphold discipline without compromise and expressed confidence that the party's leadership had taken an appropriate decision.
The expulsion has also sparked discussion in Satkhira's political circles, with leaders from different political parties reacting to the development.
There was no immediate public response from Gazi Nazrul Islam regarding the decision to expel him from the party.
