Integrity, Punctuality and Accountability Reflect Love for the Country: Health Minister

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain has said that integrity, wisdom, punctuality and accountability are essential expressions of patriotism, urging newly recommended civil servants to uphold these values throughout their careers.

The minister made the remarks while addressing a reception for candidates from Narsingdi recommended for the 45th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Cadre, organized by Saptahik Shomoy O Kotha and Rhythm Group at a hotel in the capital on Friday night.

Addressing the newly recommended officers, the Health Minister said that integrity is not merely about refraining from accepting illegal financial benefits. Rather, true integrity is reflected in punctuality, commitment to one's responsibilities, accountability to the public, and dedication to public service. He stressed that the primary duty of both public and private sector officials is to ensure the welfare of the people.

He also noted that the achievements of the successful candidates were made possible through the support of their families and society, emphasizing that they now have a responsibility to serve the people with honesty and a strong sense of accountability.

Recalling his early professional life in the banking sector, the minister said he used to begin work at 8:30 a.m. and often returned home around 9:00 p.m., adding that such dedication and commitment to work represent genuine integrity.

Highlighting development initiatives in Narsingdi, he said a medical college established as a gift from the Prime Minister is set to begin its academic journey with 50 students. He also announced that a trauma center along the Dhaka–Sylhet Highway will be launched soon, while plans are underway to establish a diabetic hospital and a mother-and-child healthcare center in the district.

The minister added that public office and authority are temporary, but meaningful service to the people creates a lasting legacy.

The event was chaired by Manjur Elahi, Member of Parliament for Narsingdi-3. The keynote discussion was delivered by Mohammad Wahid Hossain, Chairman (Senior Secretary) of the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council.

Among others present were Government Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman, BSCIC Chairman Md. Saiful Islam, Director General of the Department of Jute Syed Md. Nurul Bashir, and Rhythm Group Managing Director Md. Sohag Hossain.
